Color separation service examples:
*Black background is used to illustrate how color separation process works.
Example: 1
- The logo has 3 Spot colors: Red, Yellow and Cyan.
- For a crisper look we used halftones of all 3 colors.
- We provide a color separated version of your artwork. You can
forward to your printing service provider, to get exact output on any product or paper.
- To make color separated artwork files, we redraw each and every part of the logo as a whole object. This procedure fills
colors and at the time of separation we can change it's color to
Black and White so it can cut the overlapping part of other colors. |
|
Example: 2
- 1st color is CYAN. This is a color separated version of Cyan color.
- When CYAN color is separated, where ever the CYAN color is present in the logo, it becomes black (shown as CYAN here). All other colors become white and can cut any other objects overlapping any other colors. |
|
Example: 3
- 2nd color is RED. This is a color separated version
of RED color.
- When RED color is separated, where ever the RED color is present in the logo, it becomes black (shown as RED here). All other colors become white and can cut any other objects overlapping any other colors. |
|
Example: 4
- 3rd and last color is YELLOW. This is sample of color separated version of
YELLOW color.
- When YELLOW color is separated, where ever the YELLOW color is present in the logo, it becomes black (shown as YELLOW here). All other colors become white and can cut any other objects overlapping any other colors. |

Hand Traced artwork vs. Software based vector artwork.
Redrawn artwork examples show the accuracy and major difference between hand traced artwork vs. tracing softwares or online vector conversion websites.
Why hand traced artwork is better?
- These examples of conversion quality clearly helps you compare them at first sight and see the
difference.
- Tracing programs have several limitations. They are not able to provide text as real text. They can only provide rough line work of text. Our technicians places text in the same fonts used in your original artwork.
- The main purpose of recreating artwork is to get EDITABLE artwork for changing
colors and any other required changes in future. Our Art Department creates all artwork
in different parts that are 100% editable in future, so you or your print service provider
can make changes as per your requirement.
- Softwares can not reproduce the artwork on SPOT colors, they can only provide artwork in CMYK
and all objects are merged. This limits future conversions into spot colors.
- Softwares typically do not create a perfect gradation of colors. Instead,
they provide different colors, that can't match with the original artwork or represent smooth colors.

Color Separation.
To make a print ready files or camera ready artwork, you may require color separated output files.
Final vector artwork files are created accurately with the right color mode and separation guidelines.
Artwork Color Schemes.
- SPOT Colors without halftone: It's simple to separate colors
- Spot colors with halftone: It's complex to separate colors
- CMYK colors : It's not possible at our end to separate colors
- Black and white : If you want to print vector artwork in white color
See through images.
In some cases, clients want to print images as 1 or 2 colors and would like to show Product’s color as 1 color. Such artwork are called "SEE THROUGH" artwork, for printing on Glass, T-shirts, Koozies etc.
Spot Color separation vs. CMYK color mode.
Spot color separation is the process of separating a color image into its individual printing colors. It is used to when colors are not mixed in the printing process. Each spot color is represented by it's own specially pre-mixed inks.
CMYK color mode is used mostly for raster files. This mode is referred to as full, 4 color process. It is used to reproduce color images by creating and superimposing halftone dots from the four basic colors: cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
The vector output format depends on the output process requested by your printer.
Line art and Gray Scale images.
It is important to know whether the image will be printed as gray scale or line-art before the actual conversion takes place.
Line art images have only two solid colors: black and white. They are generally "flat" images that do not require depth.
Gray scale images are frequently referred to as "halftones". They have percentages of gray, white and black tones. To contain costs, most gray scale images are re-created into line-art.
Printing Costs.
Spot color printing may cost less. If the file does not have a multitude of colors and you can limit the printing to 1, 2 or 3 colors, it will cost less than the 4 color or full color CMYK process. Generally there is a limit on how many spot colors you can use on your printing

What is a Color Separation process?
Example:
You have a raster / bitmap file of a monogram with two colors.
You need a color separated, camera or print ready output.
- we create a black and white line artwork
- you provide the 2 unique colors [any Pantone shade]
- specify which letter gets the respective color, i.e. Color A and Color B
- the shape / letters determine "upper color A and lower color B"
- above maintains continuity of color, mostly controlled by the shape of the monogram itself
- we would then create total 4 files, where 2 will be color separated
1. black and white line art that represents the original shape accurately
2. Colors filled into each shape, i.e. letter as per above example
3. Separate file with Color A. Any overlap from lower color B will be cut out.
4. Separate file with Color B. Any overlap from upper color A will be cut out.
What are typical output / print methods for vector artwork?
To receive the vector conversion suitable for a particular print method, you may specify output formats such as:
Hot Stamping, Embossed / Debossed, Digital Output, Screen Printing / Silk Screen, Offset Printing, or any other formats. You may also specify the imprint size of your vector conversion in inches or mm.
